With the news that the Government has lost the details of 25 million people in this country when a CD with the details of the child benefits system going missing, one man is saying the people in charge should be made to pay. Literally. Captain Gatso, campaigns director for Motorists Against Detection, said: "Another day, another debacle. "The reason why Gordon Brown chose not to go for an election is becoming crystal clear. He knew that this story was going to break. This and the Northern Rock crisis which could leave taxpayers billions of pounds out of pocket. "I think that people should follow the Government's advice, and that of the banks, and keep checking and perusing your statements like you have never done before thus to ensure that you do not become a victim of any fraud due to this Government's failure to adhere to its own law, namely the Data Protection Act 1998. "I say people should keep a record of their time spent doing that and then put in a claim to the Government for their time. It's this Government's ineptitude that's led to you doing that so they should pick up the bill. "And I'm sure that there's an enterprising lawyer somewhere who would be willing to take the case on - no win, no fee."
